![]() ![]() ![]() I really want to read Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas now. The Rum Diary adaptation, for anyone loosely familiar with the book, follows the fictional character (and journalist) Paul Kemp as he tires of his life in New York and travels to San Juan, Puerto Rico to work as a reporter (Thompson also worked as a San Juan journalist during the 1960s). I was more incredulous than anything else though. I didn't care except when (view spoiler) because that felt like a little much. ![]() I would avoid this if that's going to bother you. Books similar to The Rum Diary Shelve The Rum Diary Shelve Fear and Loathing: The Strange and Terrible Saga of Hunter S. I do think it can be kind of tiring when you read multiple books with a male protagonist and you can just tell the character doesn't really see women as multifaceted human beings. I think the difference here is it felt like those things played into the overall ruminations in the book about aging and wasted time. Here I kind of liked the directionless plot line and self centered characters. It's funny because the things I liked about this book didn't seem to appeal to me when I read On The Road right before this. I can see why people might have disliked it, but the things people disliked about it worked for me here for some reason. ![]()
